I remember using one of these back in the early 90's, it was a very advanced machine for the time, especially in size. Typically the Video 8 quality made VHS look like crap !
I used a later Hi8 version of this for shooting in-house videos for a company. So it did often get used with a tripod, and yes it was fiddly. I had a chunkier Canon E850Hi which was better.

Hi, great video! I have a question about another camcorder if you do not mind answering. I have an old JVC GR-DVL9200 and a tape has gotten stuck inside. At most, it has only been used for 50 hours in the past 18 years. It charges perfectly and was working perfectly until 2 months ago. Is there any way it can get unjammed ? Or is there a button I can press for it to release? Not sure if it is a mechanical problem or not. Thanks
The remote seems awkward to use since all the buttons are sideways. The tripod mount is completely unusable, suppose if you have change the tape whilst having already setup on a tripod, the hassle would be a real pain in the neck.
I have one of these. When I got it, there were capacitors rattling around inside! Surprisingly easy to get in and service, though I didn't end up getting it to work. The sensor board is for whatever reason entirely undocumented, and one of the many custom ICs probably fried, can't even get playback.
I would've loved to see some effort in getting this thing to work or at least show the cassette drive in action or anything. Don't get the point in holding a defective thing into the camera and to tell that it doesn't work - the end.
